Zootechnical Brown Trout (Salmo trutta L. 1758) Ovarian Fluid Fails to Upregulate the Swimming Performances of Native Mediterranean Brown Trout (Salmo cettii Rafinesque, 1810) Sperm in the Biferno River

چکیده

In external fertilizer fish, ovarian fluid (OF) seems to play a key role in fertilization success, improving spermatozoa swimming performance. These OF/sperm interaction mechanisms are frequently species-specific and/or population-specific and could decrease the risk of genetic introgression wild populations from introduced or escaped zootechnical individuals. The Mediterranean brown trout (Salmo cettii) is threatened by with strains domestic trutta) that were for recreational purposes. aim our study was test if native S. cettii females, rather than trutta, produce OF greater ability upregulate sperm motility conspecific males. Thus, we compared performances males inhabiting Biferno River (Molise region—Southern Italy) activated vs. trutta female’s OFs. study, females’ OFs (20% diluted), spring water, has significantly boost performance autochthonous males, while fails. preliminary results suggest OF-sperm interactions potentially influence direct hybridization involving lineage past.

Morphological differences in the skin of marble trout Salmo marmoratus and of brown trout Salmo trutta.

Despite being genetically very closely related, the marble trout Salmo marmoratus and the brown trout Salmo trutta exhibit marked phenotypic differences, particularly with regard to skin pigmentation. Histological analysis of skin from the head and gill cover of differently aged individuals of the two species was carried out in order to characterize differences in skin structure. The basic stru...

Environmental acidity and white muscle recruitment during swimming in the brown trout (Salmo trutta)

Electromyographic recordings show that, for adult brown trout swum up to their critical swimming speed (Ucrit) in a flume at neutral pH, white muscle recruitment occurred when speeds approached 1 body length s-1 (BL s-1) and continued to Ucrit (approximately 2 BL s-1) at both winter (5 °C) and summer (15 °C) acclimation temperatures. However, in the majority of fish swum up to Ucrit at ...

Severe helminthic infection of the wild brown trout (Salmo trutta) in Cetina River, Croatia; Preliminary observation

Elevated mortalities of brown trout (Salmo trutta m. fario) and grayling (Thymallus thymallus) were noticed in the Cetina River at the end of the February. Local anglers collected the samples of moribund fish and submitted them to the laboratory for examination. Ectoparasitological, bacteriological and virological examination did not reveal any ectoparasite, bacteria or viral agents, however py...

The growth of brown trout (Salmo trutta Linn.); factors influencing the growth of trout fry.

It has long been known that brown trout (Salmo trutta Linn.) grow to different sizes in different waters, and there has been much speculation concerning the factors determining these differences. Dahl (1918-19) suggested that the food supply and the degree of crowding were important; also that small, slowly growing trout were derived from smaller ova than those growing more rapidly. Southern (1...

Parasitofauna study of the brown trout, Salmo trutta (Pisces, Teleostei) from Corsica (Mediterranean island) rivers.

Corsica is a Mediterranean island characterised by a great number of rivers. Salmonides are the main fishes which populate these rivers. Very appreciated by fishermen, Salmonides are represented by three species in the insular hydrographical network, among which an autochthonous species, the brown trout (Salmo trutta). In the present work, we have analysed the parasitofauna of this species. Acc...
